Ceci's Corner

Ceci enjoying her new bedCeci is a very special little lady who lives in Nederland, Texas, with her human Dad, Darren, and her foster brother and sister: Tigger and Gabby.

She has a lot to say on a lot of issues and she’s certainly a feisty little miss.  She is also blind, but that doesn’t deter her from speaking out on what she feels passionate about.

Ceci has her own Facebook page which you can visit here: Ceci the blind kitten

Enjoy!

Ceci the blind kittenI came across a very special kitten recently on Facebook – Ceci – the blind kitten.  She has her own Facebook page (see the link at the bottom of this piece) and she has her own very special adopted Dad – Darren Bailey.  I’m hoping we’ll hear more about Ceci over the coming months.

With foster sister GabbyCeci and her brother were dumped in the parking lot at a Vet's office in Southeast Texas.  She had a very bad respiratory infection, and didn't get to see a vet in time, so it made her eyes rupture.  The very nice Vet had to remove Ceci's eyes to save her life.  He also removed her tear ducts so they wouldn't cause problems later on.  He thought that she was about 2 months old then.  Ceci has had a very rough start in life, but she is doing pretty well now.  Ceci is a brave kitten, and she is full of energy.  On December 14, 2015, a very nice man, asked if he could foster Ceci, and he took her home.  On Christmas Day, Ceci got the best present a kitten could hope for!  Her Foster Dad decided to adopt her!  Ceci lives in Nederland, Texas.  Please share her Facebook page with anyone who you think would enjoy it.

Hi everyone!

Gabby and Ceci eating grass I'm doing well, and enjoying playing with my foster sister, Gabby.  She is in the picture with me, eating planted grass.  Gabby lost her right eye to an untreated URI, and her right front leg to an injury.  That doesn't slow her down!  If she doesn't want to be caught, you'll have a hard time catching her.

When Dad can afford to, he TNR's the feral / community cats in our neighbourhood.  He successfully rehabilitated an orange tabby he named Ace.  Ace was recently adopted by a woman who lives in the area.  Dad recently TNR'd another orange tabby and named him Tigger, in honour of my friend Tigger, who was over 22 years old and who recently passed away.

TiggerSometime after releasing Tigger back into the neighbourhood, Dad noticed that Tigger's eyes looked like they'd been injured in a fight.  Dad trapped Tigger and took him back to my Vet, Dr. Hanson, at the Wilcox Clinic in Groves, Texas.  Dr. Hanson advised Dad that Tigger had a condition called Bilateral Entropion.  His eyelids were turning inward, causing his eyelashes and hair to scratch his corneas.  Dad didn't realize that animals could have this, because his Dad actually had that condition, and the corrective surgery years ago.  Dr. Hanson told Dad that Tigger needed the corrective surgery as soon as possible.  A very nice woman who lives in Pennsylvania called the clinic and paid for Tigger's surgery!

Tigger stayed at the clinic for about 10 days, so Doc could more closely monitor his recovery.  Tigger is home now, in our foster room.  Dad thinks that he must've been a pet at some point because he is too friendly to have been feral his entire life.  Tigger is a very loving and friendly cat.  Dad says that he tries to make friends with all of us, but Gabby and I still hiss at him.  Ceci and Gabby sleeping peacefully togetherTigger has already made friends with our dog Beau.  Since Gabby and Tigger are our fosters, they are available for adoption.  Dad would rather that someone local adopt them, or at least within 100 miles or so.  Exceptions can be considered.  You can find more details on my Facebook page, or message my Dad on there.  Thank you very much for visiting my page here, we'll see you next time! :)

Hi,

last pic of Sissy with DadDad is sorry for falling behind with my news, but he's been pretty busy.  Our friend Crystal lost her foster Sissy to cancer a couple weeks ago.  Dad helped take care of Sissy too.  She was an old girl, around 11 or so, and had been rescued from living under a house.  She had suffered a botched declaw, so her feet were very painful.  She had lived outside her whole life, after being dumped.  Unfortunately, Sissy had an aggressive and advanced form of cancer.  Despite all of what she had endured, Sissy was one of the most loving cats Crystal or Dad had ever taken care of.  Dad took her to the Vet, so he could ease her suffering.  Dad stayed right with her until she passed.  Sissy was cremated and then returned to Crystal.

Shadow just after we got herWe have two new foster kittens, Shadow and Mimi.  When they first came to us, Dad had to bottle feed them for a while.  Shadow is black and came to us after someone found her under their house.  At that time, she only weighed about 3oz!

MimiA couple of weeks or so ago we got Mimi.  Mimi is a tiny grey tabby.  She apparently had a bad URI when her eyes were still closed, because it looks like both of her eyes are messed up.  My Vet says that she may have a little sight left in her left eye, but her right eye is pretty much lost.  She'll have another check-up soon, to determine what's the best thing to do with her upcoming surgery.

Shadow being held down and groomed by TiggerTigger has been outstanding with Shadow and Mimi!  I don't play with them that much, but I am nice to them.  My oldest brother Tamale turned 11 years old last month, and my brother Franklin turns 4 years old next month.  If you'd like to follow my Facebook page, there are more pics and videos, and more current info.  Thank you all for your patience, and continued support, we really appreciate it.

Hi everyone!

OreoRescued kittens found in a boxDad rescued several kittens since my last article!  He helped a friend catch one (Oreo), another one was given to her, and he rescued 3 others left in a box in someone's yard.  We got all of them to fosters, and they be available for adoption from the Humane Society of Southeast Texas in Beaumont before too long.

Dad also rescued another one of the community cats from our neighbour and named him Luke. Luke the community cat Unfortunately, he tested positive for Feline Leukaemia, but Dad found a special rescue in Louisiana that takes care of FIV and FeLV positive cats!

My foster sister Gabby got to be on TV last week!  Each Thursday, the Humane Society features a special pet that's available for adoption, on KFDM Channel 6's show, "Live at Five -Thursday's Pet.  We'll include pics of our recent rescues and a link to Gabby's TV feature.

Thank you all for visiting my page and reading my articles.  See you next month!

Hi everyone

Please forgive our delay in writing another piece - we've had a lot going on.

TiggerShortly after our last update, we lost our foster cat, Tigger.  Dad rescues him from the neighbourhood, and TNR'd him.  He later noticed Tigger's eyes were messed up, which turned out to be Bilateral Entropion; a condition where your eyelids start turning inward...which causes the eyelashes and hair to dig into the eyeball and cornea.

Tigger had surgery to correct the problem, then he stayed inside with us.  On July 20th, Tigger passed away suddenly.  Dad took about 12 seconds of video to show our vet.  Based on that, our vet believes it was congestive heart failure.  Tigger was buried in our back yard, alongside the other fosters we've lost over the years.

Our home was flooded during Hurricane Harvey.  We got about 10" of water throughout our home.  When it receded, Dad evacuated us to a friend's house.  Later that morning we moved to another friend's house, and that's where we stayed until the 6th October.  We are thankful to have had a safe place to stay though.

Ceci and Beau on our birthdayThe work on our home is far from done.  October 6th (the day we moved back home) was my 2nd Birthday, and my brother (the dog) Beau's 11th Birthday!  The night we got home we got to have a special dinner and a couple new toys too!

Thank you for reading my page, and for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers.

Love,

Ceci

A Morning Kiss

A morning kiss, a discreet touch of his nose landing somewhere on the middle of my face.
Because his long white whiskers tickled, I began every day laughing.
