Santa goes on strike by Jem Vanston“Santa Goes on Strike” by Jem Vanston tells the story (in rhyme) of Santa deciding he’s had enough of the selfishness and greed of people, so he goes on strike.  What will the reindeer do? They can’t deliver the toys without Santa, but he’s depressed and taken to his bed.

It is funny, and heart-warming, thought-provoking. It could spark conversations between parents and children about what is important in terms of ‘need’ and ‘want’.  At the same time, it very cleverly raises awareness of depression.

This book is a delight for children and adults alike.  The poetry is very well written and there are exquisite illustrations on each page by Jay Rixon. I really liked the rhythm of the rhyme and I think children will love the bright pictures which are quirky and funny.  As Jem says, this is a book that should be read aloud at Christmas!

A Cats Purr

"Cats make one of the most satisfying sounds in the world: they purr ...

A purring cat is a form of high praise, like a gold star on a test paper. It is reinforcement of something we would all like to believe about ourselves - that we are nice."
