Thought you would like to know about Stevie, a 4 and a half year old black cat.

Stevie

He is my cat. I mean, we have 7 in the house, but you know how they each pick on one or other to be with the special human.

Well, I tamed this fellow. He was wild, and I mean wild. He was part of the gang that we have outside. Comes to be fed and will watch you, but don’t touch.

He was hurt and I grabbed him up and put him in the house real quick in a single room. Then I got the cage and took him to the vet.  When I got him back, I had to isolate him in a room. That meant several times a day I had to go in and clean the litter box and give him food and water. It took time, but I tamed him. But then, he was going to be with me and me only. This last year he has become friendly with my husband Al, as well.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I want to tell you what Stevie did this afternoon. He is my cat and goes where ever I am and usually sleeps with me. Now that it is so hot he will sleep under the foot of the bed and I have to watch when I get up because often his tail or hind foot is sticking out as he is one of these cats that does a lot of rolling about.

Any way when I went upstairs this afternoon to have a quick little wash up, he jumped in the bath tub. Now we have a very old fashioned cast iron tub that is, of course, covered in nice cool white enamel. The tub also sits directly under the window and the window comes almost to the edge of the tub and is a big window. I have the window open as far as it will open and a nice breeze was coming in. Now with the way the tub sits and the window and the breeze I am sure the breeze rather circulates around in there and the tub being up on a pedestal and lined with nice cool enamel he spends a lot of time in there what with the heat and all.

Well I put the bath mat on the floor and was talking to him and asking him to get out so I could bathe. I wanted to put the rubber mat in the tub but he just looked at me as if to say go away, or perhaps it was join me? Well I put the stopper down and turned the cold water on - it only trickles up there for some reason, Al has gotten some parts and will try to fix it. So now there is cold water starting to trickle into the tub and he is just laying there looking at it. As it starts to get near him he sits up and goes to investigate.  First he sniffs, then he starts patting it with first one foot then the other and he keeps patting at it and backing up until his rear end is going up the slope of the back of the tub.

I put the hot water on, not high, but a little so the water is not real cold for my bath. He finally turns around and I think he is going to get out, but no - he sits down and is now part way in the water and just keeps patting at the water. He is finally sitting all the way in the water and then takes a final pat at the water, stands up, stretches and reluctantly jumps out and lays down on the floor and looks at me as if I were some kind of mean person. I did have a quick wash up and let the water out and after I was dry and dressed I picked him up and put him back in the tub where it was a little damp but cool.

So that is the kind of thing I have to put up with from my special fur-child.
