Too Much Info on Your Cat's Collar

Putting your cat's name on his collar is asking for trouble

I don't mean to be a scaremonger but putting too much information on your cat's identity disk or collar is dangerous.

Any personal form of identification on a cat can be used detrimentally. A disreputable person seeing the cat’s name can call the cat, and the cat responds. The person then takes the cat back to wherever they live and takes the cat’s collar off or removes the identity disk and begins to call the cat by another name. Within a short space of time, the cat has forgotten his original name and responds to his new name.

The only information that needs to be on either a collar or identity disk is your house number, postcode (zip code) and your phone number. That way neighbours will know that the unfamiliar cat in their garden belongs to someone locally and they will call you. Personalised cat collars, therefore, in my opinion, do not keep your cat safe – they make them a sitting target for any one with dishonourable intentions. Keep your cat safe - don't be sorry!
