My name is Bailey. I am now 14 months old and have been brought to my new home by my newfound friend, Amy. We first discovered each other when I was just 11 weeks old and I was still living with my other family and Mum. I didn’t realise how happy until now I am living here with my new family, until I started to settle in with them.

Chapter One: The Rescue

My other family weren’t really very nice to me and they had smaller people who were very loud and used to pick me up and throw me around. I didn’t like this very much but thought it was ok. Then my new friend Amy came to stay one evening and we seemed to bond. She was very gentle and caring and didn’t pick me up and throw me around. Then she left and I was a bit sad. But then, one evening, Amy came and picked me up and wrapped me in some warm fluffy stuff and took me out into the cold and wind. There were lots of loud bangs going on. I think it was something called thunder. She took me into a nice warm and cosy (and a bit smelly) moving thing.

Chapter Two: The New Home

After what seemed like ages in the moving (bit smelly) thing, we arrived somewhere different. Amy knocked on the door and a very similar looking human opened the door. She didn’t look very pleased to see me, but we went inside and Amy put me gently on the floor. It was a very nice soft floor and I started to have a look around. I still had my little red ball that Amy brought with us from the other not-so-nice place.

I was looking around, getting to know my way when all of a sudden, a big, brown, hairy thing came towards me. (It didn’t look like me at all!) It had a very long nose and whiskery bits on its chin and great big feet. As it got nearer I became very scared and the only escape was to run up these white lacy things in the window. I was stuck there for a while, but it felt safe. The other human called out to the big hairy thing a name: ‘Jasper!’ and it went away. Then the other human helped me down from the lacy things and she gave me a cuddle. I think she will be my friend as well, although I’m not so sure about the big hairy thing though.

Chapter Three: Feeling at Home

Things are going really well for me now. I’m finding out loads of things every day, exploring lots of new things too. My favourite thing at the moment is to sit at the sink and watch the round thing in the bottom when water runs down it. I look at it for ages. I’m also very helpful around the house. Like today, for instance. My bigger friend, (I think this is Amy’s Mum) was doing something with some pictures so I thought I would go over to help. The glass looked very shiny so I decided to walk over it several times to see my reflection. I don’t think my new friend was very happy with this though, because she kept picking me up and throwing me a ball or two.

Then I helped her with some plants. That was great fun flicking the dirt everywhere. Sometimes I think I shouldn’t be doing these things but my friend is all right about it.

I got a new toy today as well. Not sure what I‘m supposed to do but it’s great fun and keeps me busy for ages, and it makes Amy laugh too. And the best thing of all, is the big hairy thing, called Jasper, he plays with me too. He is very gentle with me and we have great fun. I think I’m going to be very happy here and even better is that Jasper let me share his bed the other night when I was a bit scared. So from being a very scared kitten, to a very happy confident cat, who has found loving caring friends, I’d like to thank you for reading my story so far.

A Cats Prayer

Lead me down all the right paths,
Keep me from fleas, bees, and baths.
Let me in should it storm,
Keep me safe, fed, and warm.
