Twinkle in a flower potMy name is Twinkle and I am the spokescat in our household (being a girl, I am, of course, better looking and far more intelligent than those dozy boys). My older adoptive sisters, Butty and Tilly have agreed that I should be the one to speak.

I know that Christmas is coming when the Advent calendars appear.  I, of course, have the Dreamies one as it has the best treats in it.  I leave the rest of the calendars for the other cats as they don't mind.  Once I have alerted them that it is that time of the year we all get excited.  Myself, Butty, Tilly and Mischief all wait in anticipation when mummy gets the calendars down, but it takes her ages to find the right door to open (I'm sure I could do it much faster myself!!).

MischiefMischief is a boy but he is quite clever and he gets excited about Christmas. My brother Socks is a bit dozy but mummy loves him.  He appears yawning and stretching when he hears the calendars being opened and of course wants a treat.

We have a new family member this year called Pusskat Willem.    Mummy said he was a stray and had no home.  He doesn't really understand about Christmas and sleeps through the opening of the calendars, but wakes up when mummy puts treats under his nose.  No doubt he will get the idea eventually.

Christmas Eve mummy tells us that Santa is coming so we must be good cats and go to sleep (not that this is a problem you understand).  Christmas morning is exciting as there are presents and stockings under the tree.  We know what presents are for us as they either smell of catnip or they rattle. Mummy complains that she wonders why she gets us presents as more often than not once we have got over the excitement of our new toys, we start to play with the wrapping paper and boxes.  Mummy says we are just the same as human children who discard their expensive toys in favour of the packaging.

Soon our noses tune into the delicious smell of chicken cooking.  Mummy is a vegetarian, but she cooks chicken breast for us on Christmas morning.  As the smells get more and more delicious we all get very excited.  No doubt Willem will drool.   He drools over most things!  After all that excitement there is only one thing to do and that is have a little snooze.

This year has been a sad year for us as we had to say goodbye to our two older brothers, Tymmy and Syddy.   They had both been poorly for a long time.   Mummy was very upset and she has told us all that she would like us all to say a special Christmas prayer for not only Tymmy and Syddy but all our other brothers and sisters who are no longer with us.  We know how much mummy misses those brothers and sisters so we have promised that we will do as she asks.

TillyMy friend Tilly, who came to live with us four years ago, had a horrible life previously, and I got very upset when she told me about it.  Tilly said she had spent all her life in a cage and she had babies all the time.  These babies were taken away from her and then she had more babies.  This went on until she was no longer any use and she was replaced by one of her own kittens. Happily mummy rescued her and she came to live with us.  She was quite terrified of everything and did not like us at all.  She ran into corners and hid all the time.  She even scratched mummy when mummy tried to pick her up.  Mummy said we must all be patient with Tilly and very slowly it worked and now although she is still nervous she is happy for the first time in her life she tells me.

One day Tilly was very brave and went outside.  Mummy was watching her and she laughed and cried at the same time because Tilly was eating the green shoots off some bulbs.  She thought it was grass.  Even though she had never been outside before she did know she should eat grass, how clever is that?  Now she is much better and she knows what grass is.  I have taught her how to play with toys and now Tilly has a nice time chasing toys. Sometimes I do get a bit upset if she plays with a particular favourite toy of mine, but usually I let her have it, as after all you have to share with friends!!

We wish you all a very happy and peaceful Christmas

Love Twinkle, Mischief, Butty, Tilly, Socks, Twinkle and Pusskat Willem xxx

Lead me down all the right paths,
Keep me from fleas, bees, and baths.
Let me in should it storm,
Keep me safe, fed, and warm.
