I have decided to eat more healthily especially as warmer weather is here. I think I need more greens in my diet. I’m not too keen on the latest new fangled cat meats on the market which Maid buys because they are expensive, or designer, although that really should tempt me! They tend to have peas and carrots in them, something that doesn’t really flash on a cat’s radar as something quite gorgeous to eat.

Yet more things for me to turn my nose up at when I know that they have cost Maid quite a bit of money which she brings from that place called ‘work’. I have noticed that recently Maid has been growing things in boxes and pots on the patio. Willi Whizkas has been giving her a helping paw by trying out each blue box before she filled it with soil and seeds, then he would lie on the planted seeds, no doubt trying to hatch them, stupid cat!!

As I have been getting bolder recently and going out onto the patio, get a bit of wind in my whiskers. I have been sniffing the new tender plants as they emerge from the soil in the boxes. Clearly they are put there for my use so today I thought I would indulge in a salad for lunch as the pots were looking very healthy and inviting.

First I very delicately nibbled at the runner bean leaves, and they were quite delish!! Carrot leaves were a bit ‘take it or leave it’ but the French bean leaves were so tender and juicy I reached up into the pot and had a good chew, I was almost lost in an epicurean dream. I then ambled over to the flower pots for a dessert.  I sampled the rose petals, I think I could develop a taste for flower petals, they were very delicate, certainly soft not at all crunchy like kibbles. I think I could become quite the garden-gourmet.

Lunch over I then ventured down the path onto the terrace, where to my delight, I found some grass, which although chewy, was quite palatable and rounded off my lunch quite nicely. I was so stuffed I actually had to pass on the catnip leaves at the edge of the lawn.

I then sat down, picked some ghost knots out of my pelt, contemplated the lawn and garden, and was sick all over the grass. Good day all round. Must do it again tomorrow. I shall pencil it into my social diary.

Maid’s version!

With the credit crunch in mind I have taken up pottaging, and am growing fruit and veggies on the patio and in the garden. Madam has supervised the gardening with worried eyes from the safety of the carpet through the French windows whilst Wills has climbed into every pot and fallen asleep on compost when seeds have been sown, I suppose he feels he’s contributing. However today, bit of sunshine and Madam actually surprised herself by coming outside where she had a good munch of the leaves. Some plants are poisonous to cats, and these are forbidden in the garden and house of Tom Cat Towers. She looked like she was enjoying herself so I left her to it! I’m pleased that she is going outside and getting the wind ruffling her fur.

The Very Best Toy for Cats

"Of all the [cat] toys available, none is better designed than the owner himself. A large multipurpose plaything, its parts can be made to move in almost any direction. It comes completely assembled, and it makes a noise when you jump on it."
