Garfield Wins

In June of 2004, at the age of 18 and a bit, Garfield had major surgery. That he came through it is surely down the to the care of the veterinary staff at Pet Care and our vet, Kevin Castle. But it is also down to Garfield's tenacity and sheer determination. Laura Dumm drew this cartoon to celebrate Garfield's triumph - which sums him up perfectly!

Seventy percent (70%) of cats that are turned into pounds and shelters for behavioural problems in the US are declawed cats.  Twenty-five percent (25%) of cats turned into pounds and shelters are purebred. Simply stated, a declawed cat is a maimed cat.  This is because the claws have so many important functions in the life of a cat.  DO NOT DECLAW YOUR CAT!!!

A group of cats is referred to as a clowder or a glaring.  An unneutered male cat is called a tom (or a gib, if neutered) and an unneutered female cat is called a queen.

The group of words associated with cat (catt, cath, chat, katze) stem from the Latin catus, meaning domestic cat, as opposed to feles, or wild cat.

The furry tufts on the inside of cats' ears are called 'ear furnishings'.  They insulate the ear and help filter out sounds and debris.  It's important to keep ears healthy and parasite free.

The smallest wildcat today is the Black-footed cat.  The females are less than 20 inches (50 cm) long and can weigh as little as 2.5 lbs (1.2 kg).

Three cats is an attempted takeover.
Four or more cats is a complete coup!"
