PAISLEY'S FIRST POEM

Arched back
and four feet off the floor and then
she finds a toy she wants to rabbit-kick.
She bites the toy and picks it up; and when
I think she’ll stay, she does another trick.
A race
around the house, a skid and slide,
she peers around the wall with big bright eyes.
No one can see her since she likes to hide;
but then, that toy again is what she spies.
Another
blur and slurping sounds are heard;
she’s found the big cats’ food and has to taste.
She’s welcome to it; kitten food’s absurd.
She doesn’t like it, so we have to waste.
All tired
out, collapsed upon the sill;
asleep, but purring, finally she’s still.
