ORLANDO'S ADVENTURES: Part IV - ORLANDO TO THE RESCUE by Jackie S Brooks
One day Omar came nose to nose with a dog who wanted to fight, he picked Omar up in his terrible jaws and it gave him a horrible fright.
The dog threw him high, up into the air, and poor Omar let out a scream, he looked down into the cruel dog’s eyes and saw a wicked and glittering gleam.
Then with a loud and blood curdling shriek Orlando launched a furious attack, and the dog howled with terror and pain as Orlando’s sharp claws raked his back.
The dog ran away with a terrified yelp, his tail between his legs as he fled. Poor Omar had turned a pale shade of grey and lay trembling in shock as he bled.
Orlando gently carried Omar back home to the stable, and put him to bed. He bound up his wounds with fresh cobwebs and said “My friend, I’m so glad you’re not dead.”
Omar was quite ill for some time, but Orlando nursed him with care and told him “You must get well again soon, we have many more adventures to share.”
Spring soon arrived and Omar recovered and the friends grew more restless each day, “It’s time to move on, we’ve been here too long, lets travel to some place far away.”
One day Piet and Hans had exciting news and they galloped back home lickety split, “We’re going to join a wagon train soon carrying stores all the way to Fort Pitt.”
Orlando asked “Can we come along too?” and Omar squeaked with delight, “Why yes” said the horses, “There’ll be plenty of room and we’ll sleep beneath the stars every night.”
“We also have heard there are mountainy men, who are heading for the Ohio River, and rumours there’s going to be Indian trouble.” That news made Orlando and Omar shiver!
To be continued ….
