'Cats make one of the most satisfying sounds in the world: they purr
... A purring cat is a form of high praise, like a gold star on a test
paper. It is reinforcement of something we would all like to believe
about ourselves - that we are nice.' - Roger A Caras
"Of all the [cat] toys available, none is better designed than the
owner himself. A large multipurpose plaything, its parts can be made to

Orlando’s Adventures
- Part VI - The Escape
by Jackie S Brooks
Under the cover of darkness
the friends look for Piet and Hans,
they release the horses’ tethers
and the four make rescue plans.
They find Daniel Boone and Smokey Joe
tied up to a wooden stake,
and chew through the ropes that bind them
hoping the Indian braves won’t wake.
“We must rescue the rest of the captives”
and Daniel whispered, “Follow me.”
Into an Indian lodge they creep and
a little voice pleads “Please set me free.”
In the gloom of the lodge interior
they found a pretty little green eyed cat,
all trussed up like a little papoose,
and Orlando’s heart went pit-a-pat.
She told Orlando her name was Calli
as he and Daniel set her free,
and then they quickly made their way
to the horses waiting beneath a tree.

Smokey Joe tucked Omar into his shirt
to keep him safe and secure as they ride,
and Daniel told Orlando and Calli
“Climb into my saddlebags and hide.”
The party set off at a stealthy trot
until they hear the sounds of pursuit,
and then they galloped away at top speed
towards Fort Pitt, by the shortest route.
Daniel and Smokey Joe led the way
and the horses kept up a fast pace,
the Indian braves were left far behind
and soon they gave up the chase.
At last the fort came into sight
and everyone started to shout,
the soldiers flung the gates open wide
and asked what the fuss was about.
Smokey Joe bumped into a friend and
introduced him to Omar, Orlando and Calli,
“Meet Swampy, my friend the boatman,
he has come from the Ohio valley.”
To be continued …..
