NOCTURNAL MAGIC by Anne Johnson
Kitty and I
on the night time grass
he, searching for bugs on the earth
me, looking for meaning in the skies
a star, aquamarine
glistens between lacy leaves
of the Russian Olive tree
It seems to speak
to only me
a moth, soft blue
flutters across the lawn
he leaps in the air
paws reaching for
a delightful snack
for each our own magic
HUMILIATION OF SNEEZING by Anne Johnson
Oh how I hate to sneeze!
I try to avoid it, you must know that
But when at last I can hold it no more
I'm reprimanded by my cat.
One sneeze he gives an irate meow,
two he meows again.
But when that third sneeze comes along
you would think it a terrible sin.
I'm left feeling guilty and uncouth,
disgusted he stalks away.
Though I apologize again and again.
He'll not listen to what I say.
IMPENDING STARVATION by Anne Johnson
How do I know it's dinner time?
Gentle paw tapping my knee,
Soft fur rubbing my leg,
No; those I can ignore,
intent on my work.
How do I know it's dinner time?
Kitty sitting on my mouse pad
staring at me, purring softly.
No; moving the mouse is difficult
but I continue to work.
How do I know it's dinner time?
Paws walking on the keyboard,
teeth chewing on the monitor.
Poor starving kitty,
It must be dinner time.
