Justice for Judith
(a precursor to “For the love of Judith”)
When I close my
eyes… I picture the face
of canine
nobility, barred by captors,
condemned outside,
to wallow and pace.
When I close my
eyes… I witness the fear
of an innocent
victim, bound by thick chains,
stripped of all
pride, yet help won’t appear.
When I close my
eyes… I consume the pain
of her lonely
existence, banished by hate,
pushed to the
brink, but yearns to sustain.
When I close my
eyes… I curse the cold air
of another cruel
season, buried by life,
forced to endure,
solo angst to bear.
When I close my
eyes… I heed the sole cry
of her pleading
for mercy, betrayed by law,
punished for
years, alone she will lie.
When I close my
eyes… I wait for the day
of unrepentant
justice, brought by valour,
guided in faith,
together we pray…
…for an end to
this game of power and control
by sentencing
malice to suffer the toll
from a firm
pendulum swing held with the goal
of avenging the
life of a trustworthy soul.
