ORLANDO'S ADVENTURES; PART III - CHRISTMAS IN NEW YORK by Jackie S Brooks
Orlando and Omar had a discussion and decided that South they should go, but they wondered how they would travel now the land was all covered with snow.
A horse overheard the friends talking, as he lived in the stable below, “There’s a Pung going south in the morning if you don’t mind a journey that’s slow.”
Said Orlando and Omar together “And what is a Pung, may we ask?” “It’s a sleigh pulled by me and my brother and travelling through snow is its task.”
“And where will it take us?” said Omar, the horse answered “To New York in one week, if you come with us in the morning, you will find the adventure you seek.”
So at daybreak they set off together through the crisp and glistening snow, and the chill of the wintry morning set their cheeks and noses aglow.
Sometimes they rode on the horses, perched up high on their backs, and when Jack Frost nipped at their noses they curled up on the sleigh among sacks.
For seven long days they travelled, over two hundred miles to New York, through beautiful wilderness country thankful for not having to walk.
When they finally arrived in the city, their new friends invited them to stay, “Come live in our warm comfy stable, it has a loft and plenty of hay.”
The very next day it was Christmas and Orlando told his friends of the star that hung over a stable in Bethlehem to guide three wise men from afar.
A child was laid in the stable, for him precious gifts they did bring of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh for a boy who was born to be King.
