'Cats make one of the most satisfying sounds in the world: they purr ... A purring cat is a form of high praise, like a gold star on a test paper. It is reinforcement of something we would all like to believe about ourselves - that we are nice.' - Roger A Caras

TWINKLE AND SOCKS

Hi Auntie Pauline and Daily Mewsers,

socks_with_very_long_whiskers

We are Twinkle and Socks.  I (Twinkle) will tell our story because I am the brains of the outfit (I'm a girl - say no more!!).

{Socks is my brother and is the top photograph.  I am the gorgeous (and modest) tabby and white at the bottom.}

We were born in July 2007, so we will be 3 this year.  We are brother and sister.  Well someone had to have the brother.  There were four of us and we were born to a cat belonging to Sarah a work colleague of Mummy’s.  Sarah wanted Mummy to have at least two of the kittens if not all of them, so funnily enough she had to go away one weekend when we were very little and asked Mummy to look after us.   She knew full well that Mummy would be unable to resist us. Sarah was right and it was arranged that as soon as Socks and I were old enough we would move in with Mummy.  Socks was the only boy and so of course I had two sisters.  Very sadly one of my sisters was fatally injured on the road at Sarah's, but my other sister still lives with Sarah.

When we were old enough, Mummy came to collect us and brought us to our new home.  We were a little shocked to discover 8 enormous big cats in residence, but we were not scared (not very much anyway). We fluffed our little bodies up as much as we could and took on the world.   The other cats were a bit shocked.  After a bit of hissing everyone settled down and we set about exploring our new home.  The curtains were most attractive and we had great games chasing one another up and down them.   Bit of a problem when big Syddy tried to follow us.   He was a lot bigger and heavier than us and – Whoops! - the curtains came down! (Nothing to do with us!!).

When we were old enough to go outside, it was great fun.  Mummy has a shed lower down the garden, and there is a family of mice living underneath there.  It is such fun watching them and sometimes I catch one and bring it indoors.   Once, one got away indoors and Mummy found it on top of the curtains.  She took some photos and sent them to friends (those without mouse phobias anyway).  One friend's uncle was so taken with the picture that he uses it as his screen saver (what a waste of a mouse).

Mr_MouseThe other day I came indoors with a mouse which Mummy thought was dead as it was all limp and lifeless in my jaws.  She caught me and I dropped it.  It wasn't dead and it ran off straight under Syddy who was dozing quietly on the floor with his back to the proceedings.   He didn't know what it was and jumped into the air.  Alas as he came down to earth he spotted the mouse and with great skill grabbed it on landing.  He didn't mess about and ran out of the house before Mummy could catch him.   It really wasn't fair.  Once again I, as the girl, had done all the work.

Mummy calls Socks "honourable Chinese gentleman" as he has enormously long whiskers and she says he looks just like a Mandarin.   He also has deformed legs and they are very bowed, but it does not stop him from running and jumping.

When we were younger it was always Socks who chased me. I used to get very annoyed, but now I have turned the tables and I chase him.  He has to run very fast to avoid me catching him.  If I get hold of him I box his ears, which Mummy says is not very nice of me.

Mummy has not been well, but I have done my very best and I sleep on the pillow next to her at night and keep washing her with my tongue just to make her feel better.  Socks likes to come in and see Mummy in the morning.   He keeps saying he has been looking after Mummy as well, but he doesn't do it as well as I do.  He is just a boy.

Being a girl I like everything in pink.  I had a lovely collar for Christmas.  It had rows of diamonds, but somehow I lost it.  I was quite upset.  I now have another one with crowns on.   It is very pretty, but does not have so much bling on it.  Unfortunately Mummy has been unable to find my special collar.

Well, I do believe it is supper time, so I must leave you now so as to get to my bowl (pink with Princess written on it) before that Socks arrives on the scene.

Lots of love,

Twinkle and Socks xxxx
