'Cats make one of the most satisfying sounds in the world: they purr ... A purring cat is a form of high praise, like a gold star on a test paper. It is reinforcement of something we would all like to believe about ourselves - that we are nice.' - Roger A Caras

"Of all the [cat] toys available, none is better designed than the owner himself. A large multipurpose plaything, its parts can be made to move in almost any direction. It comes completely assembled, and it makes a noise when you jump on it." -- Stephen Baker

SONIC

SONIC

My name is Supersonic Dreadnought, but all my friends call me Sonic. When I was registered at the vets they would not take my full name and asked if I could be registered as Sonic, so Sonic I have become.  As can be seen in my lovely photograph, I am jet black with long fur.

I am now a very mature lady having reached the grand old age of 18.  Mummy does not know where I was born or who my parents were.  When I was about 12 weeks of age I was found wandering down a very dangerous main road by a Policeman. I was taken to the RSPCA. A friend of Mummy's worked there, and I was then a very cute fluffy kitten who loved to play with my ball.   Mummy's friend rang her to tell her about my arrival and how cute I was.  Mummy's daughter immediately went to see me and fell in love with me (who wouldn't). She told Mummy that I must come and live here. So Mummy came to see me and it was arranged that I would be brought over the very next day.  As Mummy was well known to the RSPCA the normal pre-adoption checks did not have to be carried out.  The lady who brought me just wanted to make sure that all was as it should be, and so my life began here with my new family.

There were already cats in the family and I was quite scared to start with as they were all bigger than me. However, it was not long before I felt part of the family and joined in the games with toys.  Mummy introduced me to the great outdoors, and although it was fun to go into the back garden and sit in the sun or under the trees if it was hot, I was not one to wander into other people's gardens.

Some of my fellow cats liked to hunt the mice and birds in the garden, but I was not one for hunting.  I did like to play Tiddlywinks with frogs. It was very amusing watching them bouncing around.   I did not want to hurt them, it was just fun making them jump, but if Mummy caught me she would tell me off for frightening the frogs.

When I was 7 major changes occurred in the household; two of my companions had kittens, so there were soon 8 kittens running around all over the house. I did not like this at all as they were far too noisy and boisterous.  All that running, chasing and jumping everywhere made me tired just watching them.  Wherever I went there were always some small paws poking me asking me to play.   I became unhappy and would try to hide from the babies.  Luckily Mummy's daughter, Carey, said I could go and live with her.

When I first moved I was very frightened and everything was very strange indeed.  I would cry to go back home.  Mummy came round every day to start with in the hope that I would settle more easily into my new life.  After the first week I began to realise that I was the only cat and there was no one to share food with or sleeping places it was all mine.  Life became very blissful indeed.

As I began to enjoy being the only cat and being spoilt rotten, I discovered this meant that I could have the best chair in the house and I could sleep under the duvet in winter.  Most of the time I sleep on Carey's head but she does not mind.

I am told now I am more mature that my coat has to be brushed more often or it gets a bit matted.  I cannot pretend that I am that keen on having my tummy and legs brushed, and sometimes it means both Carey and Mummy having to do it together.   Still it keeps them fit.

I also have "senior moments" and decide I would like my breakfast at 4.00 a.m. and I just keep crying until it appears.   The best thing though is I can choose what I want to eat.   Of course I only like the most expensive little tins, and just when everyone breathes a sigh of relief that they have found a selection that I like, I decide I have gone off that, so another selection has to be found.  Mummy's other cats don't mind as they get all the tins I don't like!! I don't eat many biscuits now as my teeth are not so good.  Mummy was trying to find the Felix soft and moist biscuits that used to be around a few years ago, but it seems Felix don't make them any more, unless any readers out there know anything different, or know of any other soft and squashy biscuits that a mature lady like myself might be able to manage.

I think that is all I can tell you about me, so with love from

Sonic xxxx

A Cat's Prayer'

Lead me down all the right paths,
Keep me from fleas, bees, and baths.
Let me in should it storm,
Keep me safe, fed, and warm.

Let the sun shine where I lay,
Keep me young so I may play.
And most of all ...
Bless the people I adore,
And guard me from the dog next door.
