Dezi and RaenaDezi:  Meow Daily Mews readers. It’s been a little bit since you’ve heard from us, so we thought we’d give ya’ll a little update on what’s been happening around our part of the world. Sis Raena was spayed in October, and recovered well. She’s still missing a few belly furs, but they’ll be back in no time and she’ll be as floofy as me. Me had a birthday. Yep, that’s right, me turned 7 years old on November the 1st and me celebrated me’s Gotchaday on November the 22nd. 7 years ago, this month, God blest me with a loving mommy and forever home. Me has a lot to be thankful for indeed.

Raena:  Sissy, are ya’ gonna tell everybody about my new phone skills?

Dezi:  Not this time Raena, we’re gonna talk about Thanksgiving this month.

Raena:  Thanksgiving? We give thanks every day, why do we need a whole article about that?

Dezi:  Well Raena, it’s about a little more than just us giving thanks every day.

Raena:  Oh. Is this that Thanksgiving Day thing that all our friends have been talking about lately?

Dezi in her tree topDezi:  Sure enough Raena. Ya’ know this is your very first ever Thanksgiving, but me has celebrated 6 Thanksgivings with mommy. Me’s not gonna give everybody a history lesson about the who, what, when and where’s of how and why there’s a Thanksgiving Day. Most of ya’ know already and if ya’ don’t and want to know you can google it.

Raena:  I’s don’t know all that about Thanksgiving sissy, and I’s don’t know how to google it either.

Dezi:  It’s okay Raena, you don’t really need to know all that. What you do need to know is how we here at our house celebrate Thanksgiving. Now most peeps celebrate with a big feast, turkey tom lurkeys, taters, salads, sides, and pies. Oh, and stuffing, we can’t forget about the stuffing. Families gather together and watch parades and ball games on the teevee, and shoppers prepare for the “super sale event” known as Black Friday.

Raena:  Turkey tom lurkey? That sounds yummy sissy. What is it? Is it like our chicken dinners? Our favourite freeze dried chicken breast treats?

Dezi:  Oh Raena, me has only had it once, but it’s far better than any of those things. But turkey tom lurkey isn’t really what our Thanksgiving is about.

Raena with a toyRaena:  Really sissy? Is it about that super saving shopping event called Black Friday?

Dezi:  No Raena. We don’t have the money for shopping, even if it’s supposed to be a super saving event.

Raena:  Then what is it about sissy?

Dezi:  It’s about giving thanks to God for all the blessings in our lives. The big ones and the small ones. It’s about being together and loving each other. You and me are so blest to have a warm home with toys and beds and food for every meal, and most of all a mommy who loves us more than anything else in the universe. There are so many kitties and animals out there that don’t have a forever home. A lot of them don’t even know where their next meal will come from or when it might happen. They don’t have anywhere soft and warm to sleep, and they don’t know the joys of being loved.

Raena:  That would be a horrible way to live sissy.

Dezi:  It is Raena. Some of them eventually end up in shelters or rescues, but it’s still not the same as having a home of your own, and a mommy or daddy to love you. But there is something we can all do. Even those like us who don’t have much money. Shelters and rescues always need volunteers, and supplies. And you know shelter kitties who get to spend time with humans become less afraid and show better when peeps come to adopt. A shy kitty, a scared kitty can too easily be overlooked in a shelter setting. But, when that kitty is socialized, they often come out of their shell and get adopted faster.

Raena:  But what about those kitties living outside that don’t have anywhere to sleep or any food to eat? I will share my food with them sissy.

Dezi:  That’s very sweet of you Raena, and just what mommy would expect us to do. And for all other peeps out there that may have feral or stray kitties in their neighbourhood, you can build shelters for them out of things you probably already have around your house. You can find instructions for many of these shelters online and at the Alley Cat Allies website. Check with the rescues in your area to see if they have a TNR program.

Raena:  They can also be nice to the kitties and pray for them.

Dezi:  Yes Raena, being nice and praying are always good things to do. And thanks to a very dear friend, we’ll also be celebrating Thanksgiving this year with our very own turkey tom lurkey. We have been truly blest that all 3 of us will be eating this year, and giving thanks for our full bellies.

Raena: Really sissy? We’re having a turkey tom lurkey?

Dezi: Yep Raena, we are. But we’ll still be spending the day giving thanks for the many blessings in our lives.

Raena:  Which we should do every day, right?

Dezi:  Right. We want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for reading our stories and being our friends. Thank you all for loving me’s sis Lexi and welcoming her successor, Raena, into your lives. The holiday season is upon us, and even tho we don’t always celebrate the way the rest of the world does, we do celebrate. We hope you’ll join us next month for Raena’s first Christmas. And till then, remember to give thanks for the blessings in your life. Thanksgiving is a state of being, and not merely a day.
