BagelBagel aka SunglassCat was born without eyelids. However, I didn't know this until she was 4 months old. Here I was taking her to the beach every day, and had no idea that she couldn't develop tears whatsoever. Yet she'd never complain about anything bothering her. As a matter of fact, she's never been a cat who meows or really talks, and as a kitten she didn't meow whatsoever as they normally do.

I ended up taking her to an eye specialist once I discovered she had an issue. She was keeping her right eye closed often, and I knew then something was wrong. She was very underweight since she almost died after she was rescued, and in order to have surgery she needed to gain weight.

After her first eye surgery she got her sunglasses because we were always at the beach, and she also went anywhere I'd go because she had real bad separation anxiety. Bagel still cannot develop tears, and will never be able to. Her sunglasses help keep out a lot of the particles that would scratch her cornea.

To this date she's had 3 eye surgeries on her right eye, and only 1 on her left. They didn't take 100% so I have to pluck her lashes out. Also, since she cannot develop tears I have to put artificial tears in her eyes anywhere between 4-6 times a day. She will have to wear her glasses for the rest of her life as well as have the drops put in. She will either have another eye surgery, or I'll keep plucking the lashes out as long as she lets me. Besides her eye problems she also has temperature issues, and that's why you'll see her in clothes at times. Bagel has other issues, but I’ll save that for another time.
