'Cats make one of the most satisfying sounds in the world: they purr
... A purring cat is a form of high praise, like a gold star on a test

about ourselves - that we are nice.' - Roger A Caras
"Of all the [cat] toys available, none is better designed than the
owner himself. A large multipurpose plaything, its parts can be made to

PIECES OF MY
HEART
by Jim Willis

‘Pieces of my Heart’ by Jim Willis is a collection of poems, essays, opinions
and articles which were inspired by his love of all nature and animals. Jim
Willis is an animal advocate. He treads where others fear to tread. He speaks up
for the voiceless where others tremble at the repercussions. Jim is not afraid
to make a stand for the unfairness that we Humans dole out on our non-human
companions.

The
book is absolutely inspirational. Jim is a well-seasoned writer with a good
sense of humour which he exploits in many of his articles, particularly in
extracts from the ‘Basset Chronicles’ in which Alexis, his Basset hound,
propounds her ideas and opinions. Her take on Christmas had me in hysterics: see
page 69.
There are many subtle conversations and sub-texts which between the species
which we humans would be well advised to listen in on and take note. How could
we treat our non-human counterparts with any less respect than they deserve? All
animals are sentient beings. They feel joy, pain, fear, love, misery, sorrow and
grief – all the things that we experience. That they can’t voice their emotions
in the way that we humans can is no reason for us to torture them in the name of
research, or for sheer devilment.
I
can’t speak highly enough of Jim’s book. It should be curriculum reading for
children in all countries, in all schools throughout the world. Jim not only
shows the way for animal treatment to be improved, but he actually gives helpful
tips and website addresses in the appendix at the back of the book.
I
urge you to hug your nearest cat, dog, hamster, rabbit, rat, snake, whatever pet
graces your life and appreciate the fact that living with you makes them happy –
and is beneficial to your health. When the animals are gone – and the way humans
are carving up the rainforests and taking the habitat away from indigenous
species - there will be nothing left for man and the world will be a very lonely
place indeed.

A
Cat's Prayer'
Lead me down all the right paths,
Keep me from fleas, bees, and baths.
Let me in should it storm,
Keep me safe, fed, and warm.
Let the sun shine where I lay,
Keep me young so I may play.
And most of all ...
Bless the people I adore,
And guard me from the dog next door.
