'Cats make one of the most satisfying sounds in the world: they purr ... A purring cat is a form of high praise, like a gold star on a test paper. It is reinforcement of something we would all like to believe about ourselves - that we are nice.' - Roger A Caras

"Of all the [cat] toys available, none is better designed than the owner himself. A large multipurpose plaything, its parts can be made to move in almost any direction. It comes completely assembled, and it makes a noise when you jump on it." -- Stephen Baker

ASK YOUR ANIMAL

by Marta Williams

‘Ask Your Animal’ by Marta Williams will challenge forever the thoughts and notions you may have had about the way you communicate with your pet companions.

The sub-line of the title is: ‘Resolving Behavioral Issues through Intuitive Communication.’ What does that mean I hear you asking?

We talk to our pets, and we talk to them in ways we presume they understand so using intuitive communication goes that one stage further and means you talk to your pets by sending your thoughts and mental images.

Going back for a second to using verbal communication, Marta Williams suggests talking to your pet in a normal voice using normal, everyday language and assume your pet understands what you’re saying to them.

I tried this out on Sam some time ago (before I’d read Marta’ book!) He wanted to go in the garden for some reason. It was about 9.00 pm so I said to him as I opened the back door for him ‘Come straight back, Sam, there’s a good boy!’ To my utter astonishment he was back inside the house within 5 minutes!

Using intuitive communication I could have sent an image to Sam that pictured him going to the toilet, and immediately returning through the cat flap in addition to giving him verbal commands. All animals are capable of reading and receiving these images so what you think about, your pet receives as an image. If you were, therefore, about to insult your dog by calling him a mangy old flea bag or your cat by calling her a schizophrenic nutcase you would greatly hurt their feelings – so be careful what you think! Try to only think positive thoughts and send positive affirming images to your pets.

If your pets embark on inappropriate behaviour then using intuitive communication you could ask them if there is something wrong and how can you help to put it right. Never assume your pet is in the wrong and remember that there are NO bad animals – they only respond to what we humans do to them in the first place. So if you move a litter tray and the cat isn’t sure where it is, it will not be the cat’s fault if they then pee on your best duvet or sofa!

Marta’s book is informative, interesting and challenging and having described how you begin to do a specific thing – like sending visual thoughts or images to your pets – she then gives you a task to try in order to put it into practice.

Now – here’s the good bit! – communication is a two-way thing and you, the pet lover, are encouraged to listen to your pets. Again, Marta gives directions how to do this and you’re encouraged to write in a notebook any thoughts that may come into your head once you’ve asked your pet your question. It may be your own thoughts that come back to you but it could be that of your pets so don’t dismiss it. In time, you’ll be able to have lengthy discourses on the price of cat or dog food, what their views are on global warming and whether or not your pet likes your Mother-in-law and you can swap secrets!  As I’m still in the process of having my house decorated I could defer to my feline interior designers to get their views and opinions on my decorating tastes. Would they request fish stencilled wallpaper perhaps!

Marta’s book is available in paperback from New World Library: www.neworldlibrary.com, www.amazon.com  and www.barnesandnoble.com

The ISBN is 978-1-57731-609-1

A Cat's Prayer'

Lead me down all the right paths,
Keep me from fleas, bees, and baths.
Let me in should it storm,
Keep me safe, fed, and warm.

Let the sun shine where I lay,
Keep me young so I may play.
And most of all ...
Bless the people I adore,
And guard me from the dog next door.
