101 Reasons Why A Cat Is Better Than A Man is a pocket sized book which most women who have cats in their lives, rather than men, will nod with appreciation and recognition that the author knows her stuff.

A friend gave me this book some years ago when the only love interest in my life came from three ginger feline companions, Garfield, Biggles and Charlie. The absence of any males was compensated further when I acquired three more little ginger kittens (Billy, Timmy and Joey) – doubling my ginger cat family in one stroke. Who needs a boy friend, thought I, as I went to work on the train to London and then the Underground to my office covered in ginger fur – my feline boys making sure that they travelled with me in some way or another!  Now, of course, I am doubly blessed with Billy, Sam and Ollie AND a male who has captured my heart, but I still love this little book.

Written by Allia Zobel and illustrated by Nicole Hollander, each page has several ‘reasons’ and a wonderfully rich illustration based on Nicole’s own two feline companions, Buddy and Izzy.  

A couple of my favourite ‘reasons’ are as follows:

‘Rich, slim, or witty you needn’t be

A cat will love you unconditionally.’

‘A cat would never tell you you look better in high heels.’

‘Cats don’t make jokes at your expense.’

‘Cats like to hear the same story over and over again.’
