'Cats make one of the most satisfying sounds in the world: they purr ...

that we are nice.' - Roger A Caras
"Of all the [cat] toys available, none is better designed than the owner

MEWSLETTER 9: April 8, 2003
by Pauline Dewberry

Hi Everyone and a very warm welcome to
my new subscribers. There are
thousands
of you now!!!! (well, a few!)
We
here in the UK are having glorious sunshine at the moment -
normally April can be very wet and dismal. A couple
of weeks ago though, at 7.30 in the morning there was a slight snow flurry. It
stopped as quickly as it began - maybe it realised that it had got its timing
all wrong! Later on that same day, we had a hailstorm and boy, were those little
hailstones fierce!! I was out in it with no shelter!
It's nice to see the sun and all the cats
here at the DailyMews office love to sunbathe. Fortunately, none of them are
white although Charlie is white with big ginger freckles but his ears are ginger
otherwise he would have to have sun block on him for protection. If you have a
cat who is predominantly white, or who has white ears, please use sun block on
them. They are prone to cancer, sadly.
Garfield, who was 17 on 27th March (you
can see his photo here
http://www.thedailymews.com/articles/kittendiaries2.htm)
likes nothing more than spending the entire day lying on the sunlounger. When it
gets too hot for him, then he goes underneath it for the shade, and another one
of the Mewsers jumps into the hot spot for a while.
Ollie's foray into journalism has gone to
his head and he has written another 2 instalments of his diaries - you can read
them here
http://www.thedailymews.com/articles/kittendiaries2.htm
and
http://www.thedailymews.com/articles/kittendiaries3.htm
They are getting good reviews and several
people have suggested that I send them to a publisher to see if they can be
published in book form. I have some Spanish exams coming up but once they're
over I might look into that.
With the summer time now upon us and our
cats spending perhaps longer time out side, it's time for flea alert! It's
usually a good idea to continue with flea treatment all year round but if you
have let it lapse during the winter months, now is a good time to begin again.
One of the best and most effective
treatments is the spot on method. You just drop two little drops onto the back
of your cat's neck in two places and that's it. The dose should be repeated
every 4 - 5 weeks throughout the summer and can tail off to about once in every
5 - 7 weeks throughout the winter months. The neck is about the only place on a
cat's body that it can't reach to lick which is why it is a good place.
Let me have your feedback on Ollie's
diaries, and other articles on the site. Let me know if there are areas that you
would like to see covered on here that aren't already being dealt with.
In the meantime, until the next
MEWSLETTER, take care and have a purrfect week.
Your editor and feline friend
Pauline

A Cat's Prayer'
Lead me down all the right paths,
Keep me from fleas, bees, and baths.
Let me in should it storm,
Keep me safe, fed, and warm.
Let the sun shine where I lay,
Keep me young so I may play.
And most of all ...
Bless the people I adore,
And guard me from the dog next door.

PRAISE FOR THE OCTOBER
2005 MEWSLETTER
Thank you very much for another wonderful Mewsletter. I look
forward to it each month, and this month was especially fine.
There is enough in it to be able to read at leisure over several
days, which sets it apart from many more compact sites, which
are finished in a few minutes. Your Mewsletter is more of a
digest, which I can go back to for something new over and over
again. I appreciate very much the work that you put into it,
and the contributions of all your feline staff. Thanks to
Ricky, I may even take up yoga.
All the best from rural Belgium, Jared Kline |
