'Cats make one of the most satisfying sounds in the world: they purr

MEWSLETTER 6: October 20,
2002
by Pauline Dewberry

Hi Everyone
Well, I had a very pleasant holiday in Menorca, one of the Balearic Islands in
the Mediterranean. Came home to over 375 emails - one of which had a virus! It
completely wiped out my hard drive and all my email contacts. What upset me a
great deal was that some of my
readers had written with questions for the
Daily Mews Team to answer and those emails were lost too. So, if you were one of
those who wrote in and didn't receive a reply, then I apologise and ask that you
resend your questions. I usually reply within a day or so.
Anyway, hope everyone has had a good
summer. Here in the UK we are having our customary (annual) rain and floods -
although, it seems to last all year round now! And now it has turned very cold.
The heating is on and the cats have all 'bagged' a radiator each.
I've been looking after next-door's 5
month old kitten, Lily. She is
sooooooooooooooooooooooo cute! At first all the Mewsers were a tad unfriendly,
apart from Garfield, who did offer her the paw of friendship. But she returned
his generous offer with a hefty spit to which Garfield just turned and walked
away, muttering, 'please yourself,' under his breath.
After 9 days though, she has won everyone
round and she has fun chasing them from room to room. If they should turn and
face her, she stands her ground, fluffing out her fur, raising herself to all of
about 6 inches high and looks as scary as possible for a 5 month old
kitten to manage.
I expect you'll meet Lily in the future no doubt. For
this month's new article you'll need to click here :
http://www.thedailymews.com/articles/introducingsam.htm
I hope you enjoy it. Please let me know
what you think of the website, of the articles and if there are any topics you
would like to see covered.
FIREWORKS! Just a word of warning for
those in the UK. November 5th is Guy Fawkes Night and if your area is like mine,
fireworks are going off all the time in the build up to the actual night. So
please make sure you keep all your animals indoors as much as you can until all
danger is passed.
Dogs and cats are easily frightened by all
the loud bangs and look to you to protect them. Try to ensure that they can't
get out and bolt into unfamiliar territory if they are spooked by loud bangs and
whizzes. Reassure them and let them snuggle up to you but if you have to go out
for the evening, leave the tv or radio on for background noise and comfort.
Till the next time, have a purrfect week
and take care.
Pauline
Garfield, Charlie, Billy, Timmy, Ricky and
Sam and temporarily, Lily
