MEWSLETTER 13: June 28, 2003

Hi everyone and a very
warm welcome to my new subscribers. For those
of you who have just joined up, I'm sorry that this MEWSLETTER won't be what you are expecting to see.
Normally, a MEWSLETTER would contain news about articles and stories that have just been posted on site with a bit of feline chitchat thrown in
for good measure.
But, I'm afraid, this is MEWSLETTER is to impart some very sad, and devastating (to me and the MEWSERS) news.
Charlie, my beautiful white and ginger cat was taken very seriously ill late last night and passed away during the night. The vet came out to see him at about 11.00pm last night and said his lungs were full of fluid. Charlie had been fine for most of the day so it came as a complete shock to me – and to the other cats in our family.
He was to go to the surgery early this morning to have a chest x-ray, but that wasn't to be. The vet gave him 4 or 5 injections last night and a heart tablet but as they didn't work, he is of the opinion that Charlie had a serious heart problem and that he had probably had it for some time. The fluid in the lungs was just the last stage of the illness and once at that stage, there was nothing that could be done.
I still can't believe it. He was a beautiful cat; easily spooked at loud noises and particularly visitors he didn't know. But he was a very affectionate cat and as a kitten he got up to some spectacular feats. You can read about these in various articles which are in the archive section of the site. He was responsible for training Billy, Timmy and Joey and was a very hard taskmaster, `firm but fair', was his motto!
He would have been 10 in September, which, considering Garfield is 17 and had the stroke 3 weeks ago is young in my opinion. I half expect to wake up one morning to find Garfield has passed away peacefully in his sleep – but to find Charlie this way has left me completely
devastated.
The other cats are looking for him, even though they all said their `goodbyes' to him this morning. The house is very quiet and although he wasn't an exuberant 10 year-old, his absence is keenly felt by all.

2005 MEWSLETTER
Thank you very much for another wonderful Mewsletter. I look
forward to it each month, and this month was especially fine.
There is enough in it to be able to read at leisure over several
days, which sets it apart from many more compact sites, which
are finished in a few minutes. Your Mewsletter is more of a
digest, which I can go back to for something new over and over
again. I appreciate very much the work that you put into it,
and the contributions of all your feline staff. Thanks to
Ricky, I may even take up yoga.
