'Cats make one of the most satisfying sounds in the world: they purr ...

MEWSLETTER 10: May 23, 2003
by Pauline Dewberry

Hi Everyone
and a very warm welcome to all my new subscribers. I've
had
several new peeps this past week so I feel very much like a Mother Hen gathering
her chicks under her wings for protection!
May has been a very wet month so far. A
friend recently came back from a holiday in Spain and hasn't had a single dry
warm day since then. In fact it was hotter here in the latter part of March and
throughout April than it sometimes is in our 'real' summer months.
None of the MEWSERS like the rain very
much and will only go out if they are desperate. If we have torrential rain
lasting for a day or more, I usually bring out the litter tray so that they can
do their 'thing' in privacy under the dining room table. I mainly do it for
Garfield so that his arthritic bones don't have to creak too far in the wet but
he is the most independent of all the cats, preferring to go outside. I give him
a good rub down afterwards with a towel especially for his use, which he enjoys,
and then he'll spend ages having a leisurely wash to restore himself.
The trouble with having a litter tray
under the dining room table is that you can bet your bottom dollar that you'll
just be sitting down to a long awaited meal, or even a cosy intimate supper for
two, and one of the cats decides that NOW is the very moment to do a stonking
poo! You can read about Timmy doing this very thing here:
http://www.thedailymews.com/articles/throughthecatflap.htm
Ollie has written another instalment of
his diaries. You can read it here:
http://www.thedailymews.com/articles/kittendiaries4.htm
Such is the popularity of the diaries that
fame has gone to his head and he is now recognised out in the street! I
discovered that he goes out the front now – the thought of which terrifies me as
I have already lost 3 beloved cats to the traffic outside my house. Ollie's
benefactor, PetShopMan, advised getting ID disks so he and Sam are now sporting
their medallions with pride. The others will also be getting theirs very soon.
If you are thinking of getting ID disks
for your pets, it is not a good idea to have their name put on as someone could
call your cat, take it in, take off the collar with disk, call it something else
and within a short space of time your cat will have forgotten his previous name.
So just put your door number and postcode (zip code) on one side, and your
telephone number on the other side.
Other news on the site, there is a poem on
the PURRFECT POETRY page written by a friend of mine. To read it click here:
http://www.thedailymews.com/poems/kittenfun.htm
There is a CAT STUFF section which is new
where you can click on to advertisers to purchase their products. And there is a
new Amazon.co.uk link for general purchases on the home page that you can click
on.
Something to make you think twice if
you're one of those people who think female cats should have at least one litter
before being spayed:
http://www.thedailymews.com/catneutered.htm and
http://www.thedailymews.com/didyouknow.htm
Coming soon! Advance notice of a new
section called CAT CHAT where you can post your articles and anecdotes about
your own cats to share with others. Some of you I know have dogs and cats that
co-exist together. Have you any stories that you can share about how they get
on together? Anecdotes/articles up to
1,000 words will be accepted, so please submit them before June 17th.
Well that's it for now. I hope wherever
you are the sun shines. There is nothing nicer than watching a sleeping cat
stretched out in the sun, enjoying the warmth on its body. Get writing for next
time!
Take care, and until next time, have a
PURRFECT week!
Pauline, your feline friend

A Cat's Prayer'
Lead me down all the right paths,
Keep me from fleas, bees, and baths.
Let me in should it storm,
Keep me safe, fed, and warm.
Let the sun shine where I lay,
Keep me young so I may play.
And most of all ...
Bless the people I adore,
And guard me from the dog next door.

PRAISE FOR THE OCTOBER
2005 MEWSLETTER
Thank you very much for another wonderful Mewsletter. I look
forward to it each month, and this month was especially fine.
There is enough in it to be able to read at leisure over several
days, which sets it apart from many more compact sites, which
are finished in a few minutes. Your Mewsletter is more of a
digest, which I can go back to for something new over and over
again. I appreciate very much the work that you put into it,
and the contributions of all your feline staff. Thanks to
Ricky, I may even take up yoga.
All the best from rural Belgium, Jared Kline |
