5 GOOD REASONS FOR

DID YOU KNOW... |

A morning kiss, a discreet

Because his long white

I began every day laughing.

Cats have staff.'

'Cats make one of the most satisfying sounds in the world: they purr ...
A purring cat is a form of high praise, like a gold star on a test paper. It
is reinforcement of something we would all like to believe about ourselves -
that we are nice.' - Roger A Caras
"Of all the [cat] toys available, none is better designed than the owner
himself. A large multipurpose plaything, its parts can be made to move in
almost any direction. It comes completely assembled, and it makes a noise
when you jump on it." -- Stephen Baker

EXPLOITS VALLEY SPCA
(Newfoundland, Canada)

The Exploits Valley SPCA has been protecting abused, neglected and stray animals
since 1971. The branch covers all of Central Newfoundland West and south from
Lewisporte to Baie Verte. The shelter, located on Duggan Street in Grand
Falls-Windsor, was constructed in 1991. In 1994, the Exploits Valley SPCA was
granted charity status. The membership includes approximately 20 active members
as well as a number of loyal supporters who help out when they can. Members are
responsible for raising upwards of 75% of the funds required to operate the
shelter on a yearly basis. The Exploits Valley SPCA is affiliated with the
Canadian Federation of Humane Societies and with the Newfoundland and Labrador
SPCA.
The Exploits Valley SPCA is a volunteer-based, charitable organization dedicated
to improving the welfare of animals. Its members are sworn to:
·
uphold the laws of the Canadian Criminal Code(and local by-laws) regarding
animal cruelty by means of investigation, and if necessary, prosecution.
·
to provide shelter to animals in need and assist in placing them in permanent
safe homes.
·
to endeavour to prevent animal abuse or neglect by means of public education.
·
to humanely euthanize unwanted and/or seriously injured animals.
Each month there is a variety of fund-raising activities which encourages people
from all walks of life to participate and there is a thriving Junior Membership
also.

Forthcoming
fundraising events for October, November and December are as follows:
The third Saturday
of every month we do our Looney Line at the Exploits Valley Mall here in town.
We do this from September to June. We set up a desk and chairs plus our signs
and a cage with a kitten or a puppy on view to attract attention. Then we canvas
for donations. Our volunteers do the shifts and we change hourly, both the
volunteers and the animals. We want to avoid stressing the animals so we don't
keep them there too long.
Check the website
for further details of all future fund-raising events, and ways in which you can
help.

A Cat's Prayer'
Lead me down all the right paths,
Keep me from fleas, bees, and baths.
Let me in should it storm,
Keep me safe, fed, and warm.
Let the sun shine where I lay,
Keep me young so I may play.
And most of all ...
Bless the people I adore,
And guard me from the dog next door.

PRAISE FOR THE OCTOBER
2005 MEWSLETTER
Thank you very much for another wonderful Mewsletter. I look
forward to it each month, and this month was especially fine.
There is enough in it to be able to read at leisure over several
days, which sets it apart from many more compact sites, which
are finished in a few minutes. Your Mewsletter is more of a
digest, which I can go back to for something new over and over
again. I appreciate very much the work that you put into it,
and the contributions of all your feline staff. Thanks to
Ricky, I may even take up yoga.
All the best from rural Belgium, Jared Kline |
