DEAR OLD JESSIE
“I love cats, Because I love my home, And after a while, They become its visible soul.” Jean Cocteau I will never forget the day that I first saw her She was outside my window, with a raccoon They were fighting over one of my deck chairs With dear old Jessie, I’d fall in love, very soon
At the time, she belonged to one of our neighbors But she had begun hanging out, on our back patio I soon talked to our neighbor who told me that Jessie Had never really been very content living in her home
So, I eventually invited dear old Jessie to come live with us And she accepted, since she craved the company of other cats Dear old Jessie quickly became one of our most treasured felines She had the soul of a true charmer, and she got to me just like that
How she adored napping in the sunlight, in our bedroom window How she truly loved curling up on my lap, whenever I watched TV How she was so adamant, whenever she wanted me to do something How she would badger me each morning, when she now wanted to eat
We never really knew exactly how old our dear old Jessie really was But she graced us with her charming presence, for over twelve years Our old home is just not the same today, without our dear old Jessie She died in my arms last night - today, there’ll be no end, to my tears
I’ll never forget the day that I first saw her, She was outside my window, with a raccoon; They were fighting over one of my deck chairs, With dear old Jessie, I’d fall in love, very soon. Dear Old Jessie, I Shall Always, Miss You ©2009, Mr. Ed
