MEWSletter 51: December 16 2006

Hello everyone!  Welcome to the Mewsletter for December, 2006!  For all of
you new subscribers, and for all the subscribers who have been here forever,
allow me to give you a very gentle headbutt and introduce myself.  My name
is Stacy Mantle and I am helping Pauline with her website while she is in
the hospital.  So please be forgiving if I miss anything, this is my very
first time working on a task of this importance.

First, allow me to update you on Pauline’s health, because so many have been
asking about it and while I am desperately trying to keep up with the
inquiries, I also run another website known as www.petsweekly.com.  So
please bear with me!

Pauline is doing very well according to the latest reports from the UK.  She
has had several Chemo treatments and while she states that the first one was
the very worst, they have become progressively easier as she moves through a
very successful treatment.  She is in hope that all of you prayer warriors
will continue your words of hope with our higher power, as she firmly
believes that prayer is far more therapeutic than physical treatments alone.
By all accounts, her disease is retreating more rapidly than the doctors
expected and with luck, she will be home earlier than expected.  She
desperately misses her favorite felines and we are all conspiring ways in
which we can sneak them into the hospital for a quick visit.  We have,
however, been warned that doing so is not only medically inappropriate, but
probably illegal as well. There is also that little jaunt “across the pond”
to worry about, as I am located in Arizona.  Sigh.  We’ll figure something
out… For all who would like to hear from Pauline herself, I have included
part of an email that I just received yesterday!  Pauline is home for a
short while, and was kind enough to update us all:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Just a very brief email to let you know I came out of the hospital today
about 2.30pm. I had a mountain of post to deal with on the dining room table
(took me about 2 hours and it's still not done!) I still haven't fully
unpacked my bags although I have done one lot of washing (laundry) and it's
hanging on a clothes horse (airer) to dry.
The cats have forgiven me for being away from them for 5 weeks and don't
seem to be fazed that I'm completely bald, although I came home wearing the
wig that I was given at the hospital, which my hairdresser friend dressed
for me so it actually doesn't look too wiglike.
My friend who picked me up from the hospital took me for some lunch but I
could only manage a little bit - I've lost about 8 pounds (which I'm pleased
about - I have considerably more to lose so it's just a drop in the ocean -
and actually, thinking about it, that could be the hair that I've lost! LOL)
The transplant is scheduled for 14th January, but this is subject to the
bone marrow results - which I have on Monday. I'm not spending too much time
on the computer because I was told to rest - so I'm not going to go against
good advice…”
In terms of the Daily Mews, I have placed a few articles, stories and even a
“Holiday List for Cats”
(http://www.thedailymews.com/articles/Christmascatlist.htm) for all of you
last minute holiday shoppers.  Just click on the pictures, and they will
take you directly through to the item for purchase – at least we hope so!
Just so you have something for the holidays, I have also placed a short
story titled, “Feline Navidad”
(http://www.thedailymews.com/articles/felinenavidad.htm) on the site.  With
hope, you will find something to relate to in this fun story of prepping
your home for the holidays.
In addition to those fine articles, we have a wonderful Christmas poem by
the very talented Ed Kostro that will truly bring a tear to your eye.  I
believe it may be the next “Christmas Cat”
(http://www.thedailymews.com/articles/christmascat.htm) story that we read
in place of “Twas The Night Before Christmas”. Be sure to check out his
other beautiful and humorous poems, “Christmas Claws”, “Our Christmas Star”,
and “A Gift of Love”.  Also, he has a beautiful story here that you can read
entitled, “The Christmas Star”
(http://www.thedailymews.com/poems/ourchristmasstar.htm).
Pauline has also taken time to write a Christmas Poem!  It’s called, “Oh
Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree” and you can read it right here
(http://www.thedailymews.com/articles/ohchristmastree.htm).
If you’re looking for a last minute gift for a friend or relative, take a
moment to view the beautiful cards that Laura Porter, another very talented
artist, designed.  There is a link to a .pdf file where you can obtain all
the information you need to order these wonderful gifts!
A Cat's Prayer'
Lead me down all the right paths,
Keep me from fleas, bees, and baths.
Let me in should it storm,
Keep me safe, fed, and warm.
Let the sun shine where I lay,
Keep me young so I may play.
And most of all ...
Bless the people I adore,
And guard me from the dog next door.
PRAISE FOR THE OCTOBER 2005 MEWSLETTER Thank you very much for another wonderful Mewsletter.  I look forward to it each month, and this month was especially fine.  There is enough in it to be able to read at leisure over several days, which sets it apart from many more compact sites, which are finished in a few minutes.  Your Mewsletter is more of a digest, which I can go back to for something new over and over again.  I appreciate very much the work that you put into it, and the contributions of all your feline staff.  Thanks to Ricky, I may even take up yoga.
All the best from rural Belgium, Jared Kline
