5 GOOD REASONS FOR

Because his long white

I began every day laughing.

'Cats make one of the most satisfying sounds in the world: they purr ...
A purring cat is a form of high praise, like a gold star on a test paper. It
is reinforcement of something we would all like to believe about ourselves -
that we are nice.' - Roger A Caras
"Of all the [cat] toys available, none is better designed than the owner
himself. A large multipurpose plaything, its parts can be made to move in
almost any direction. It comes completely assembled, and it makes a noise
when you jump on it." -- Stephen Baker

ANIMAL WELFARE
Despite the many and varied animal programmes on our television screens,
highlighting the plight of animal cruelty, it seems to be on the increase. These
pages will hopefully add weight to the current situation of animal neglect and
abuse by featuring articles by writers in the field of animal rescue.
The aim of these pages is to hopefully educate and increase people's
awareness of animal abuse and where possible to notify the relevant authorities
to bring action against the abusers.
If you suspect an animal of being neglected or abused in any way please
report it at once to the authorities in your town or city. Canvass your local
schools to provide educational programmes on how to look after their pets. If
you feel able to produce resources, offer to go into schools to speak to the
children.
Write to your local newspapers, radio shows, your councillors, or MPs, even
the prime ministers or presidents of your own countries. Animals are our
companions. They share our living space with us. They provide us with love,
comfort, support and companionship, They have rights. They deserve the right to
a decent home, with a warm cosy bed, regular nutritious meals, regular
interaction with us humans, and regular veterinary treatment when necessary.
They live in our homes, trusting us implicitly. They do not deserve to be
beaten, left outside in the cold without shelter or food. They do not deserve to
be ignored or left without veterinary treatment when hurt. Just because they
cannot speak in our language to us, doesn't mean they are lower in the order of
things. They are sentient beings; they feel pain; they feel grief; they can know
joy and we have no right to rob them of a decent life.
‘Compassion is most important for happiness. We must treat fellow human beings
as equal, that is very important, but also all beings who have capacity for
feeling. So the innate desire for happiness that is the basis of human rights
extends to all sentient beings, including animals and insects. There are now
some individuals and organisations who care about animal rights and are showing
concern about the suffering or torture of animals. I have noticed among ordinary
people, out of their love and compassion, growing efforts for promotion of
vegetarianism. These are the right kinds of expression of compassion, very
positive and encouraging signs.’

A Cat's Prayer'
Lead me down all the right paths,
Keep me from fleas, bees, and baths.
Let me in should it storm,
Keep me safe, fed, and warm.
Let the sun shine where I lay,
Keep me young so I may play.
And most of all ...
Bless the people I adore,
And guard me from the dog next door.

PRAISE FOR THE OCTOBER
2005 MEWSLETTER
Thank you very much for another wonderful Mewsletter. I look
forward to it each month, and this month was especially fine.
There is enough in it to be able to read at leisure over several
days, which sets it apart from many more compact sites, which
are finished in a few minutes. Your Mewsletter is more of a
digest, which I can go back to for something new over and over
again. I appreciate very much the work that you put into it,
and the contributions of all your feline staff. Thanks to
Ricky, I may even take up yoga.
All the best from rural Belgium, Jared Kline |
